Beo String Quartet makes its California debut at the Gualala Arts Center in Gualala, CA. The program will include a wide range of classical music styles, starting with selections from Bach’s Art of Fugue. Enthusiasm Strategies, a work composed by Missy Mazzoli in 2019, erupts in a flutter of harmonics that slowly evolves into a chorale at the end of the piece, which then dissipates into nothing. Waniyetu, which is the title of the 5th string quartet by Marc Mellits, is a collection of seven miniature movements that have to do with various characteristics of winter. Also featured will be Shostakovich’s semi-autobiographical and incredibly moving 8th string quartet and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 1 in F Major, op.18.
