Beo’s second performance for the Ibagué Festival in Colombia will feature three works, two by contemporary composers.
String Quartet No. 5 has the subtitle Waniyetu, which translates to ‘winter’ and is all about the many faces of winter. Composed by Marc Mellits, this music is minimalistic in nature but ranges from incredibly somber and introspective to unrelenting rock and groove! Enthusiasm Strategies, a work composed by Missy Mazzoli in 2019, erupts in a flutter of harmonics that slowly evolves into a chorale at the end of the piece, which then dissipates into nothing. The work was just recorded by Beo and will be released in the fall of 2022. Closing the program is one of Beethoven’s masterpieces, String Quartet in F Major, Op. 18, No. 1.
